6th Annual Creative Writing Conference

6th Annual Creative Writing Conference Saturday, April 29

Free Reception Friday April 28

Writers, craft your way to success at the 6th annual WordSpring Creative Writing Conference on Saturday, April 29 at the Butte College main campus, Learning Resource Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. A free kick-off reading and reception takes place Friday evening, April 28 with authors Jael Richardson and Andrew Lam, from 7:30 to 9 at Roots Catering, 3221 Esplanade in Chico.

WordSpring offers a full day of inspiring workshops for beginning to advanced writers, and is designed to give you hands-on techniques in writing poetry and fiction including marketing, plot, character, voice and style. Each workshop is carefully developed by working authors and poets to create tips and insights you can apply to your poems, novels, memoirs, short stories, songs and scripts.

WordSpring brings authors from a wide variety of genres, with presenters coming from all over the state and from as far away as Canada. This year’s featured authors are dynamic keynote speaker, memoirist and artistic director for the Festival of Literary Diversity in Canada, Jael Richardson, as well as Andrew Lam, award winning novelist and regular commentator on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” and author of Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora, East Eats West: Writing in Two Hemispheres, and Birds of Paradise Lost.

Included in our lineup are mystery writer Susan Spann, poets Ken Letko, Catherine Hodges and Jeanne Clark, novelists Eric Witchey, Finn Kraemer, Erica Traverso and Zu Vincent, songwriter Stacey Bartlett, The North State Writers and our lively Student Salon facilitated by the Butte College Literary Arts Club.

WordSpring is sponsored through equity funding and by the English Department at Butte College and supported by community donors and a grant from Butte’s Associated Students. Pre-registration is advised. Limited onsite registration is available at an additional cost. Admission is $75 for community members and $45 for students and educators, and includes continental breakfast and a special lunch by Roots Catering.
