Diversity Days at Butte College April 3-6, 2017

Butte College celebrated the one thing we all have in common—our diversity! More than 20 diversity workshops, speakers, and activities were offered from April 3 – April 6 during Butte College's annual Diversity Days. These events were geared towards enhancing our culture of inclusiveness and making space for productive dialogue and a deeper understanding of each other.
 
Diversity Days Schedule
The week was packed with a variety of presentations addressing topics such as; gender exploration, women in STEM, Trans* and gender nonconforming experiences, foster youth, misogyny, Islam, mixed race, inclusion, reclaiming stories, mythology of the Aztec calendar, deportation, and more!

Keynote
April 4 from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. in the Arts Building Black Box Theater
This year, we are fortunate to host keynote speaker, Dr. David Hayes-Bautista. He will be discussing how Latino post-millennials across the country are creating their definitions of what it means to be American.
 
Diversity Days Special Feature and Trainings
There are several activities leading up to Diversity Days you won’t want to miss.
 
Green Tara Sand Mandala by Losang Samten
Losang Samten will be working in the Main Campus Library each day now through March 31 until the Mandala is complete. A ceremony to dismantle the Mandala will take place on March 31 at 10 a.m. All are encouraged to view Losang Samten as he works. See more
 
DREAMer Training
March 28 from 2:30 – 5 p.m. in the Culture and Community Center
The Dreamer Ally Training is designed for staff, faculty, and student employees who work with undocumented students and students with mixed-status families. More info
 
Safe Zone Training
March 28 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
The Safe Zone program is a 2-hour introductory training that invites participants to learn about LGBTQ+ issues, provide resources, and create a supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff exploring issues of sexual identity, gender identity, and gender expression. More info
