Butte College cybersecurity students took part in the National Cybersecurity League (NCL) team-based competition recently. The Butte College team placed 57 out of 3,917 cybersecurity teams composed of students from colleges and universities from across the nation.
Skills covered in the NCL included identifying hackers from forensic data, pentesting and auditing vulnerable websites, recovering from ransomware attacks, and more. The NCL’s team-based competition also serves as an opportunity to help prepare students for a cyber career in a team-environment while expanding upon an individual’s strengths and weaknesses. The Butte College team featured students who are a part of the college’s new cybersecurity certificate program and the college's CSCI-18 Ethical Hacking class, which prepares students for the CompTIA pentest+ industry certification.
“This type of competition and team-based learning sets Butte’s students apart and prepares them in a more realistic way to succeed in the workforce,” said Wendy Porter, California Community College’s Far North Regional Director.
The team was coached by Butte College instructor Edward Miro.
